Broadband Variable Transmission Sphere for Fizeau Interferometry

چکیده

Transmission spheres used in interferometry are specified by f-number and source wavelength. In this paper, we explore a broadband variable transmission sphere (BVTS) system based on freeform Alvarez lenses that enables operation across broad range of f-numbers wavelengths. Potential applications performance tradeoffs discussed comparison to conventional spherical spheres. Simulation results presented for f/15 f/80 configurations from visible long-wave infrared sources Fizeau interferometer. highlight spherical, coma, astigmatism impose limits surface measurement quality.

Fizeau Interferometry Testbed: Wavefront Control

Stellar Imager (SI) is a potential NASA space-based UV imaging interferometer to resolve the stellar disks of nearby stars. SI would consist of 20 30 separate spacecraft flying in formation at the Earth-Sun L2 libration point. Onboard wavefront control would be required to initially align the formation and maintain alignment during science observations and after array reconfiguration. The Fizea...

Fringe shifts in multiple-beam Fizeau interferometry

A computer program was developed to compute the profile of multiple-beam Fizeau fringes and was tested against laboratory observations. By using the program as a tool for studying the behavior of the fringes, a simplified model of the fringe formation process was developed. The shifts of the fringes from their expected locations are caused primarily by a reduction in spatial frequency that is d...

Correlated errors in phase-shifting laser Fizeau interferometry.

High-performance data processing algorithms for phase-shifting interferometry accommodate adjustment errors in the phase shift increment as well as harmonic distortions in the interference signal. However, a widely overlooked error source is the combination of these two imperfections. Phase shift tuning errors increase the sensitivity of phase estimation algorithms to second-order and higher ha...

Broadband Microwave Interferometry for Nondestructive Evaluation

A broadband microwave interferometric technique for scanning near-field microscopy applications is proposed. The method is based on the association of a vector network analyzer, a hybrid coupler, an evanescent microwave coaxial probe and a precise impedance tuner built up with a high precision programmable delay line and a variable motor-driven attenuator. Advantages such as simplicity of opera...

Amiba: Broadband Heterodyne Cmb Interferometry

The Y. T. Lee Array for Microwave Background (AMiBA) has reported the first science results on the detection of galaxy clusters via the Sunyaev Zel’dovich effect. The science objectives required small reflectors in order to sample large scale structures (20’) while interferometry provided modest resolutions (2’). With these constraints, we designed for the best sensitivity by utilizing the maxi...
